If you’d like to join me for my weekly Scripture reflection series, I’ll be using the RSVCE of the Bible. Here is the entire Psalm XLVI passage.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
This is my favorite verse at the moment, not only because it’s so incredibly apt and relevant to current events, but also because it serves as a reminder that God is our pillar of strength; all of the power we possess is derived from and because of Him.
“Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.”
Society has been displaced, many have lost their way, and I believe it is because God has fallen between the cracks. As the world continues to struggle through these troublesome times, the meaning of this verse becomes clear as day. We must learn to trust in God and turn to Him for help. Instead, churches are being burned down, statues of Christ are being vandalized, and worshipers are being discriminated against. Society is turning further and further away from God, and the more that society denies Him love and devotion, the more lost society becomes.
There will come a time, and I pray that it arrives soon, that our society will have an epiphany and realize that we must return to the guidance of God. He created us in His image, and we are meant to be His followers who listen to His word and abide by His teachings. When we finally accept that this must be true and that we must live as He intended us to, peace will be restored once again.
“‘Be still, and know that I am God. I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth!’”
