If you live in Manhattan, you’ve almost certainly heard of Kyma. This is the kind of restaurant that gets around by word of mouth; I’ve heard many people rave about their food, and I’ve also seen many aesthetic photos of the restaurant on Instagram. Intrigued by all of the overwhelmingly positive reviews, I wanted to check out Kyma for myself to see if it deserved the hype! Luckily, my best friend and I had the pleasure of dining at Kyma Flatiron earlier this week, and I wanted to share my dining experience with you here.
As we were being shown to our seats, we passed the bar area near the entrance and were led towards the back of the restaurant with a more spacious seating area. There were tables for 2, 4, 6, and more, and the dining room was already very lively by 8 pm on a Wednesday.
For drinks, my friend and I ordered the Pure Passion and Mykonos Mule cocktails. I had the Pure Passion cocktail with Grey Goose Vodka, fresh passion fruit, passion fruit liqueur, vanilla homemade syrup, and lime. When I say that this was the best cocktail I’ve ever had, I’m seriously not exaggerating. I love a sweet, fruity cocktail and have tried my fair share of them at all the different restaurants I’ve dined at, but this was by far my favorite. I hate to say it, but this was even better than the cocktail I served at my wedding! There’s just something about the combination of passion fruit, vanilla, and lime that hit all the right spots. This was a fantastic way to start off the meal for me, and it gave me high hopes for the rest of the experience.
My friend had the Mykonos Mule with Belvedere, Metaxa Brandy, fresh cucumber, lime, and ginger beer. She loved her cocktail and said it was a great complement to the rest of the meal.
Next, we ordered the Pastichio Spring Rolls and Kolokithokeftedes for our appetizers. The Pastichio Spring Rolls were made with pasta, meat sauce, and crispy phyllo served with bechamel sauce. I loved how these were crispy, savory, and had just a hint of sweetness to them. They were different from anything else I’ve had before, and I’d definitely order them again.
My friend had the Kolokithokeftedes which are zucchini fritters served with lemon yogurt. She ate these super quickly and said they were delicious! Extra points for the cute garnishing and presentation.
By this point, we were already starting to feel a bit full since we had completely finished our appetizers – a rarity for us since we usually have leftovers to take home. Nevertheless, we were still excited for the entrees we ordered: the Grilled Salmon and Grilled Cauliflower Steak. The Grilled Salmon was made with fare Islands salmon, spanakorizo, and crispy leeks. My friend said the salmon was very juicy and tender, and she loved it so much that there was absolutely nothing left on her plate by the time the waiter came to collect our plates.
I had the Grilled Cauliflower Steak with Pine nuts, golden raisins, spiced tomato sauce, and mint. This was a terrific vegan option and quite delicious. If you like the taste of steak and want the health benefits that come with cauliflower, this is the dish for you. I imagine that it’s not easy to make cauliflower genuinely taste like steak, so hats off to the chef for achieving this feat.
Lastly, we ordered the Lava Cake and Baklava for our desserts. The Lava Cake with vanilla ice cream and raspberries was the sweetest way to end off the meal for my friend, and the hot-cold mixture of ice cream and the lava cake was very appreciated on this winter evening.
I loved the Baklava with pistachio ice cream since pistachio has been a favorite flavor of mine ever since I was little! Kyma’s pistachio ice cream tasted nothing short of gourmet, and I was really pleased with the quality of this. The crispy, sweet layers of Baklava were also delicious. I was too full from the rest of the meal to finish it, so I ended up taking some home to give to my folks who enjoyed it as well.
Overall, my dining experience at Kyma Flatiron was a 10/10. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and would 100% recommend making a reservation here for your next evening out. The quality of the food was amazing, and the ambiance is perfect for dinner with friends, co-workers, or a date night with your significant other!
We’d love to return in the future and perhaps even try the Kyma Hudson Yards location. Let me know in the comments if you’d be interested in seeing a review on that 🙂

Two things on this menu caught my attention. One is the Pure Passion. Anything with passion fruit in it will always garner my attention. The other, the cauliflower steak, so beautifully presented.
As you can tell from my review, I’m a huge fan of the Pure Passion! And the Cauliflower Steak was so yummy and unique 🙂 Thanks for reading!

Such an interesting comment! I was thinking exactly the same thing. I work in the area and love how eclectic the neighborhood is. Since there are so many options, it is difficult to find time.
What is the HY location like?
Wonder if they curate it for the area and neighborhood…?
Would love to get a review on that location.
