I began my Hermes journey earlier this spring, and since then, I’ve been able to try products from different departments to see whether the brand truly lives up to its hype. If you’re not familiar with the brand, Hermes is known as the #1 artisan for leather goods in the entire world, which is quite the reputation. Thus far, I’ve been impressed with their Calvi Cardholder and classic Oran Sandals, and now it’s time to see if the highly-coveted Chypre Sandals are worth the price tag. Keep reading my Hermes Chypre Sandals review to find out the pros, cons, sizing, and whether or not I think they’re worth the money. You can also watch my YouTube review and unboxing here, or contact me via Instagram @isabellevitanewyork if you’d like me to source a pair for you!
What They Come With
All of Hermes’ shoes come with the classic orange box and two separate dustbags. I find that Hermes’ canvas drawstring dustbags are much higher quality than other dustbags provided by luxury brands; these are durable, breathable, and will protect your shoes when traveling as well. These Chypre Sandals also came with a booklet that tells you all about how to care for heritage calfskin leather.
Details
Last fall and winter, you couldn’t make it more than 10 seconds on Instagram without seeing an influencer wearing dad sneakers. This summer, dad sandals were the biggest shoe trend. Because of this, Chypre Sandals are currently the most coveted item from Hermes – other than a Birkin or Kelly, of course.
Similar to the Oran sandals, the Chypre sandals feature a distinct “H” cut-out. “Hermes” can also be seen on the sides of the shoes, and the letter “H” can be seen throughout the soles of the shoes.
I purchased the Chypres in the color Naturel, which is a bronze color that’s often compared to Hermes’ classic gold shade. It’s made with Epsom heritage calfskin leather, which is durable, hardwearing, and resistant to water and scratches. It’s known to be very stiff at first, but the leather becomes more comfortable after breaking them in.
You can also purchase the Chypre sandals in suede goatskin, calfskin, or woolskin. Calfskin and Epsom are the recommended leathers for warmer climates whereas suede goatskin and woolskin are the recommended materials for cooler climates. I personally love the suede and calfskin options for NY weather!
Sizing
The sizing for Chypre sandals varies depending on the material you purchase them in. In 2023, Hermes normalized the sizing for leather, suede, and shearling (woolskin) Chypre sandals, so you can purchase your standard Oran size if you have normal/narrow feet or you can choose to go a half-size up for wide feet.
Pros
Comfort – The biggest pro, by far, of these sandals is that they are extremely comfortable! Especially if you purchase them in calfskin leather, it’ll feel like you’re walking on clouds. Here are the materials ranked in order of comfort: calfskin, suede goatskin, woolskin, and Epsom. Although I ranked Epsom last, it’s worth noting that Epsom is still comfortable overall – just not quite as comfortable as calfskin. Calfskin is comfy from the get-go whereas Epsom needs to be worn a few times to make the leather less stiff.
Pricing – Compared to other luxury brands’ dad sandals, these are actually reasonably priced. Hermes’ Chypre Sandals run anywhere from $800-$1,1100 retail (depending on the material), whereas Chanel’s dad sandals are priced at $1,525.
Wear and tear – Because of how the shoes are designed, wear and tear on these sandals won’t be very noticeable. Unlike the Orans, the Chypre sandals have very thick soles which are perfect for going on long walks around the city.
Cons
Trendy – Unfortunately, these are not considered a timeless style. Dad sandals are definitely a trend, and while this trend could return next summer, these are not shoes that I would call an ‘investment’ since you can’t be certain they will remain in your wardrobe for years to come. That being said, you don’t have to stop wearing them just because you no longer see them all over social media! I’m a firm believer in wearing whatever works for you and makes you feel confident, and I can absolutely see these lasting in your wardrobe over the years especially if you value comfort.
Availability – These shoes have been sold out in boutiques for months, and there’s a 3-6+ month waitlist to get them directly from your sales associate (SA). The only way to purchase these right now is to either get extremely lucky on the Hermes website or to use a personal shopper. If you’re interested, you can feel free to message me on my Instagram or Facebook page if you’d like to use my personal shopping services to acquire these for you!
Are They Worth It?
If you’re looking for shoes that are incredibly comfortable and you like the dad sandal trend, then yes, these are worth it. As soon as you post an Instagram photo with these, everyone will know what these are and be jealous that you were able to score a pair of Chypre sandals since they’re extremely hard to get.
Wow… what a luxurious looking sandal. In Malaysia, only those who are extremely rich can afford this sandal. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for reading! These are definitely pricey😆
These are nice shoes & they have some good pros as well. I share this with my friend. He asked me before about wanting new shoes. Thank you for sharing!
Hope these are your friend’s style! Thanks for reading 🙂
To be honest I’d never pay that much for sandals, but these are really cute I think! They are dad sandals, but they’re not looking too chunky.
Totally understand, and I agree that they’re definitely one of the nicer-looking dad sandals!
The first thing I thought of when I saw these shoes were “they look so comfy!” I love the color that you chose and the style is so timeless! Great detailed review!
Thank you! I think this color goes with everything and these are by far the comfiest shoes I’ve ever tried!
Isabelle,
Always love your reviews. These Hermes sandals add another factor as to why Hermes leather products can be counted on, no matter how pricey.

Thank you so much! I 100% agree that you can always count on Hermes’ leather products.
These are some cute sandals. I love the tan colour! Thank you for sharing your experience on these shoes.
Lauren.
Thanks for reading, Lauren! I think the tan color is wonderful because it’s a great neutral that’s versatile in any wardrobe and it’s also not as basic as a standard black or white.
Thank you for this balanced review. I love the look of the sandals and comfort is a must for me these days!
Comfort is one of the most important things I look for in shoes, so I’m so happy with these!
[…] Comfort – Many sandals with similar styles tend to be uncomfortable because of how close your feet are to the ground, but these are definitely the most comfortable pair I own. I attribute the comfort largely to the calfskin leather. As with all leather shoes, these do require a short break-in period, but you’ll notice how comfortable they are after just a few uses. If you’re looking for something next-level comfortable, you can read my review on the Hermes Chypre sandals here. […]
I adore these, but I have such wide feet and really worry that they would be tight!
They are so beautiful though
These are actually great for wide feet! You just need to size up 🙂
Great and honest reviews. I can see my dad wearing these and I liked your overview that they are not timeless – but he wouldn’t care. I like the idea of Dad sandals because they don’t need the latest trends. 😀 They look like good quality and pretty comfy! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! They are indeed good quality and most definitely comfortable 🙂
Wow, these are beautiful and so luxurious! Thanks for sharing.
Agreed! Thanks for reading!
I just bought a pair of these a week ago (in the naturel calfskin) and came across your review! As someone new to the Hermes landscape (this is my first Hermes purchase), am trying to read up and learn on the leathers and the best practices for the sandals.
Is the standard calfskin water-resistant, or is it solely the Epsom calfskin? I am wondering if (and how) that will affect long-term durability.
Although the article was published in 2022, I truly value the insights you’ve shared. Thank you for your time and knowledge!
Congrats on your first Hermes purchase!! The standard calfskin is unfortunately not very water-resistant, so I generally avoid wearing those when the forecast shows rain. That being said, don’t worry too much if it starts drizzling and you only get a few drops of water on them – just dry the calfskin as soon as you get home to minimize the chances of any damage or impact to the leather! Appreciate you taking the time to comment and read my post 🙂
