If you’d like to join me for my weekly Scripture reflection series, I’ll be using the RSVCE of the Bible. Here is the entire Psalm CXLVII passage.
“He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.”
I find solace in this quote because its meaning is very applicable to me given recent events in my life. I often doubted whether or not I should be taking refuge in God when I felt broken, because I questioned my intentions for doing so. Sometimes it seemed like I was turning to God because He was the only one left to turn to, and it felt wrong to ‘use’ Him like that. After reading this verse and reflecting on similar passages, I realized that turning to God in times of trouble is what we are supposed to do. We should not feel ashamed for seeking refuge in God when we are broken. He is meant to heal us, guide us, and show us the way. However, we must endeavor to maintain this spirit of supplication and this thirst for closeness to God even when events in our lives are going well. We should not try to use God as a wishing well to turn to only when we need a boost; we should make Him a constant presence in our lives and devote our time and energy to listen to what He has to say to us, regardless of the current circumstances.
“Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. The Lord lifts up the downtrodden, he casts the wicked to the ground.”
God has all the understanding in the world. He recognizes when we are in pain, and He knows how to comfort us. When we find ourselves in a hole, we can pray to the Lord in order to gain the strength we need to climb out. When we pray to him, we show Him that we are trusting that He will guide us out of our deepest, darkest places, that we are willing to surrender control of our lives to Him, and that we are willing to follow His word.
“His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man; but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.”
Loved this! Giving your burdens to God is so important but also making sure to thank him when life is going right too

I wholly agree! Thanks for reading.
That is a lovely psalm. I think the term ‘binds up’ is intriguing. It makes me think of lifting up, too. Thank you so much for sharing it.
I’m glad you enjoyed reading this!

I find myself guilty when I turn to God in times of trouble and need this reminder that that is what He wants us to do. Like you said, we need to remember to seek him during the good times as well. Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely! Thanks for reading 🙂
It is important that even when we feel like we are at our weakest, heartbroken, we can seek the strength to get back up. It is so important to find guidance, regardless of where we are. Thank you for sharing this amazing scripture.
