With early morning classes, a 5-semester course load, and starting my senior thesis, I don’t exactly have the time to put a lot of effort into the outfits I wear to class; thankfully, my classes are all on Zoom now, so this is no longer an issue. But that’s besides the point.
Curating trendy outfits may not be intuitive for me, but it certainly seems to come effortlessly for Kit Keenan.
Scrolling through her Instagram feed, you can easily tell that she inherited her knack for style from her mother, Cynthia Rowley. You may know her from ABC’s ‘The Bachelor’ or from her Instagram. On their podcast, “Ageless,” Kit and Cynthia share their experiences with and thoughts on fashion, business, and wellness; if you’d like another form of entertainment during this period of self-quarantine, you should consider listening to it on Apple Podcasts or Spotify! Kit was kind enough to share some of her thoughts with me regarding recent events. Here’s what she said about productivity, content strategy, and family during COVID-19:
Do you find that there’s a difference in your productivity now that it’s really necessary for you to stay at home?
“There is definitely a change in my productivity due to the effects of COVID-19. It’s partially because I am having to balance schoolwork, podcasting, and content creation all in one space when I used to have physical boundaries to break up my tasks (the classroom, our recording studio, and home). I also believe that productivity has slowed a bit overall. Above all else, I am focused on maintaining my physical and mental health right now, spending more time with my family and communicating with my friends.”
How are you pivoting your content strategy through this time?
“Luckily, my content has always been very home-workout and healthy cooking heavy. These are both things I can continue to post about from home. I have also found myself more active on Instagram stories and DMs, as these are both ways I can connect more directly with my audience. We all need a bit more warmth and motivation during these times; I love being able to chat directly with my followers.”
Do you think that, as a result of COVID-19, your content strategy will be permanently impacted (for the better or for the worse)?
“Personally, I think my content strategy will simply have to adapt to what my audience needs most during this time. I’ve loved sharing what I’m doing to stay healthy and sane during quarantine.”
Who has been your biggest support during this time?
“My mom is always my biggest beacon of support and optimism during hard times. In terms of social strategy, since her Instagram, @cynthiarowley, is normally more of a business account, she has also had to pivot her content to include more personal photos and stories.”
Do you have any advice for young women who want to become content creators? How do you build an engaged audience? Which social media platforms would you recommend they focus most of their time on in order to establish an engaged audience?
“Personally, I don’t think the platform matters as much as the content you are providing. As long as your message and your brand are unique and relatable, you will be able to build an audience that will hopefully follow you cross-platform.”

A great read! Definitely feel you, with the struggle of how this virus has affected us. Trying to stay motivated and productive can be tricky! Stay safe, will need to check out that podcast while in quarantine!
Thanks for reading! Hope you stay safe as well 🙂
With the shelter-in-place due to COVID19, I am working on making and eating healthier food, too. It was already an interest & lifestyle, there’s just more reason to be consistent now.
Making and eating healthier food is something I’ve been trying to do more consistently as well!
I loved reading this post of yours, especially as a college student myself who has been struggling with this new change going on. I thought the questions you asked Kit Keenan were great because I was interested in seeing her advice on being productive, focusing on our mental health, and quality of our content for people who have a platform:)
I’m so glad you loved reading this!

I think productivity depends on our willpower. If I want something get done i will but if I am lazy, there’s goes your productivity.
I agree!
